THE TIMES LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

— Why COLA raise?

To the editor:

We see in the Jan. 5 paper that the city employees are getting a cost of living raise of 3 percent.

I guess the City Council hasn’t heard that there has been no increase in the cost of living for the last two years. That’s what the government has told those on Social Security. We didn’t get a raise last year or this year.

How come the “civil servants” had an increase and the rest of us didn’t?

Didn’t I also read that the school employees got araise a while back? Does it cost them more to live than it does retirees or working people? A lot of people didn’t get a raise. Some even took a cut in pay. How does the Council justify this?
