Young artists awarded in state capital

— Eight Pea Ridge elementary art students are among the winners announced by the Collaboration of the Arts Festival chairperson Sharon Hacker of Little Rock.

The young artists won eight of the 20 awards in the kindergarten through fifth grade competitions, topping last year’s total of six awards, the first year that Pea Ridge had participated in the event. Counted among the awards were two first places, one second place, three third places and two fourth places

Taking first places along with the $100 prize each were Jaden Olguin, second grade, and Kashania Martinez, third grade. Marissa Barrios, fourth grade, won second place and $50 with Jackson Revelle, first grade, Jasten Lothes, second grade, and Maggie Kiley, fourth grade, each to receive $25.

Fourth place winners were Dillon Brouse, first grade, and Miranda Morgan, fifth grade, whoeach earned $15.

The Pea Ridge contingent will receive their awards Friday, May 7, from Ginger Beebe, the wife of the governor of Arkansas. Following the awards, the students will get to have their picture taken with the Arkansas First Lady.

After the arts awards, attendees at the festival will witness various musical and dancing exhibitions as well as demonstrations of sculpting, metal working and other venues by a variety of artisans.

The Collaboration of the Arts Festival is a multi-dimensional statewide arts festival featuring visual arts competitions, dancing and music exhibitions, as well as demonstrations by sculpters, artists and other artisans. The Festival is held each May at the River Market Pavilion in downtown Little Rock on Clinton Avenue.

The students will be accompanied to Little Rock by their families and Pea Ridge art teacher John McGee.
