Bands play at picnic

— Music will resound through Gateway Park Labor Day weekend at the annual Gateway Picnic set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

Southern Raised, a bluegrass family band out of Hurley, Mo., is scheduled to perform. The band includes sisters Lindsay on the upright bass, Sarah on the banjo and Emma Grace playing the fiddle and mandolin, and their brother Matthew flatpicking on the guitar. Bluegrass Music Profiles Magazine calls the band “spirited musicians who weave their instrumental talents in support of their heart-felt, bonewarming harmonies.”

Musical guest Katie Anderson, daughter of Sherry Dean, will also perform.

The picnic is open everyone in the area and surrounding areas;

admission is free.

The picnic, sponsored by the city, will include hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and baked beans. Residents may bring a potluck dessert if desired.

Bring your lawn chairs to enjoy the food and entertainment.
