The Pea Ridge Ministerial Alliance will present its annual Thanksgiving services on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church. The program is a joint effort of the Methodist Church, Carroll Renfro, pastor; First Baptist Church, Forrest Wicks, pastor; Presbyterian Church, Elliott Ohannes; and the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Mrs. Pearl Soules, pastor.

The voters within the city limits of Pea Ridge will go to the polls Tuesday, Dec. 1, to decide whether to back the Pea Ridge City Council in its purchase of two downtown buildings for city use or to rescind the matter and terminate the purchase agreement. The election will be held in the Pea Ridge E.H. Clubhouse.

John Knox of Pea Ridge will be installed as the new president of the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce at the annual C of C dinner slated for Dec. 5 in the school cafeteria. Knox, a partner at Frank's Country Meats of Pea Ridge, was born, as he puts it, "under the lake east of Rogers."

The city of Pea Ridge has been awaiting receipt of a Letter of Conditions from the Farmers Home Administration for several months to set conditions in order for the city to qualify for the FmHA $550,000 loan for the city's sewer project. The letter was received Friday, Nov. 21.

A public meeting has been called for Dec. 2 at Seligman, Mo., City Hall by the city's newly appointed Centennial Committee to initiate planning towards observing Seligman's 100th birthday.

A special meeting of the Pea Ridge City Council called to hear a grievance, which it did, evolved into discussion of cooperation, or lack thereof, between members of the council. Called at the request of Police Chief Loyd Pifer, the meeting lasted for some three hours Saturday morning and included present council members and those elected to take office in January.

Seven Pea Ridge area burglaries last week and the slaying of a Little Flock woman in her home, possibly burglary related, have prompted Pea Ridge Police Chief Sam Holcomb to warn residents to be defensive against such intruders. The only burglary that happened in the Pea Ridge city limits was at the home of John Easley on South Curtis. Holcomb said six other houses in the Pea Ridge area, out on Hwy. 94 all the way to the Missouri line, were burglarized.

When Pea Ridge High School Band director David Dickey goes home in the evening, he doesn't necessarily turn up the volume on something by John Philip Sousa. "I like all kinds of music," he said. In his second year at Pea Ridge, Dickey grew up in Earl, near West Memphis.

The Pea Ridge Area Ministerial Alliance has begun an Angel Tree for children who might otherwise not receive a Christmas gift.

Paul Simpkins took the oath of office as the new Pea Ridge Fire Chief Aug. 29, 2000, replacing David Bass at the helm of the local volunteer Fire Department. He was selected by his peers.

On a quiet street in Pea Ridge there is a thriving business going on. You won't hear a lot of noise, you won't see a lot of traffic going by -- frankly it just looks like any other house on the block with an extensive garden. That's because it's the location of the Pennington Herb Patch, owned by Randy and Sue Pennington.

City employees are hard at work building the city's tree of lights and stringing lights along the tops of downtown buildings in Pea Ridge. On Sunday, Dec. 3, Brian Tidwell, pastor of the Pea Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, will represent the Pea Ridge Ministerial Alliance in bringing a second annual tree lighting ceremony to Pea Ridge. The sesquicentennial sponsored the first one last Christmas.

Two young ladies will wake up Christmas morning in their own, freshly-painted, decorated bedrooms with new bedding and a house to call their own. Tammy Sutherland and her two daughters have a place to call their own thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

A credit card issued to the Pea Ridge School District was used to make a $400 contribution to the Boozman for Senate campaign. When the charge was discovered by the school bookkeeper, superintendent Mike Van Dyke reported fraudulent credit card to the Pea Ridge Police.

Flea Market Plus at the corner of West Pickens Road and North Curtis Avenue opened Sept. 1. The building housing the flea market is actually seven buildings in the heart of the historic downtown district.

As part of Gateway's commitment to the service provided by Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire Department, Gateway Mayor Lida Schnitzer presented a $12,000 check to Fire Chief Rob Taylor and NEBCO Board chairman Kara Funk.
