Tony Fletcher Jr. won a seat on the Pea Ridge school board over Franklin Miller at a vote total of 108 to 104.

The storm siren was taken down from the water tower for repairs. The siren was taken apart, fixed and placed back on the water tower.

The Pea Ridge girl scouts planted a tree in Lost Bridge for Arbor Day. The troop included Bonnie Sutton, Vicki Parrish, Pam Ford, Lisa Carter, Donna Hanner, Jeanetta Hurd, Patty Henson, Kay Miller, Missy King, Kim Knox, Paula McKeever, Connie Carter, Jackie Patterson and Judy Henson.

Pea Ridge Country Times

Tim Summers, was named President of the Bank of Pea Ridge. Rick Buck, who had been President of the bank since 1976, had resigned to take a position with Prairie Creek Development Company.

Don Townsend was named interim sheriff by the Quorum Court after Circuit Judge William Enfield had removed former sheriff Don Rystrom from office.

Beta Alpha celebrated their 20th anniversary. They had provided 16,946 hours of work in charitable and philanthropic activities and contributed $59,652 in the past 20 years. The officers in 1964 were Pansy Gastineau, Sue Etris, Carolyn Smith, Dorothy Williams, Katie Grimsley, Barbara Casey, Florence Bolain, Janella Buttry and JoAnn Mayfield. The officers in 1984 were Shelby Knapp, Ilse Beckmann, Virgie Hazelton, Ruth Talburt, B.J. Beeson, Pansy Gastineau, Pat Patterson and Mary Jane Pistole.

Mike Small, Pea Ridge, was promoted to a supervisory position at Daisy Manufacturing Co. He was named supervisor of the machine center.

The cable company Southern Cablecom was bought by Halycon Communications. Halycon had systems in southern Arkansas and parts of Nevada and Utah.

Roger Meppen, a retired dairy farmer, filled his spare time with making maple syrup. Meppen stated that it takes about 50 gallons of maple sap to make one gallon of syrup.

Pea Ridge Head Start received new playground equipment. The equipment was installed by Chuck Hazelton and Aaron Caldwell. The Pea Ridge Lions Club donated $250 to help pay for the new playground.

U.S. Rep. Tim Hutchinson of Bentonville spoke to the Christian Men's Prayer Breakfast at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church and talked about the main issues being discussed in Congress.

Franklin Miller proposed to the Pea Ridge city council that he would build a 12- inch sewer in his Standing Oaks subdivision and he would extend the line to Hwy. 72. He said he would ask to charge a $500-per-lot fee on any developments then connected to the line.

World War II veteran Rollo Vaun Schell was awarded the Combat Infantryman's badge, the Bronze Star and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Badge for his U.S. Army service during the 1944-45 invasion of Germany.

The library hosted several accelerated reader competitions in February. The winners included Mrs. Klotz's sixth-grade advisory had 515.6 points to be the top advisory class and Josh Hall was the over all winner with 108.8 points.
