The first to be honored as Blackhawk “Player of the Week” since the start of the football season was Darrell David, 17, a junior and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert David.

A retirement gift amounting to $210 contributed by friends in the Pea Ridge vicinity was presented to retiring city marshal Al Koenke.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawks opened their 1972 football schedule with a 27 - 0 loss to the Gentry Pioneers.

The first FHA executive council meeting for the 1972-73 school year was held in the Home Economics Building. Attending the meeting were Brenda Buttry, Patsy Prophet, Billy McElmurry, Robin Whisenhunt and Glenda Gastineau.

Enrollment in Pea Ridge High School for the fall term totaled 265 for the grades 7-12. Elementary (K-6) totaled 318.

Students of Southwest R-5 school, Washburn, Mo., got an extra day off over the Labor Day weekend. Fire destroyed the old gymnasium which was being used for the junior classes.

Winners of the contest for best dressed man, woman, boy and girl at Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church were Ralph Randolph, Ruby Parr, Floyd Haws and Michele Houpt.

The church celebrated its centennial by having members come dressed in the 19th century clothes.

Blackhawks lost their football season opener to the Lincoln Wolves 35-0.

Voters were to go to the polls later this week to elect a Pea Ridge School Board member and decide whether to extend a sevenmill property levy to build new classrooms.

Fire Chief Jerry Collins again addressed the PeaRidge City Council concerning the approval of plans to construct a new building to house the Fire Department equipment.

Moki Hana Presley of Garfield spent the summer entertaining thousands of visitors in Eureka Springs.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawks opened their football season with a win over Gravette, 36-0.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis announced that Patti Wagner as the coordinator for the Pea Ridge Wheels for Life Bike-a-thon.

Showing his patriotismfor all to see, Deane Willey on Lee Town Drive constructed a flag replica from plywood and hung it on the side of his shed.

Max Walker’s driveway on S. Curtis Ave. had been sporting a display of flags, sometimes more, since Sept. 11, 2001.

Several people shared their thoughts in a “Remembrance of Sept.

11, 2001” edition of the TIMES.

Grandparents Day was celebrated at Pea Ridge Elementary School.

A reception welcoming Dr. Virgil Freeman, new superintendent was held.

Pea Ridge Blackhawks lost a close contest in the opening football game to Green Forest 14-12.
