— A crew of volunteers moved dirt from the Negel Hall farm to the practice football field being built by volunteer labor and supplies. Saturday, soil was given by Vernon Prophet.

The crew included Jerry Ricketts, Fred Sutton, Jesse Arnols, PRHS coach Jim Roe, Jay Lee Roe, Lee Otis Hall, Ray Hoback, Charles Hardy, Roy Roe and Junior Webb.

Sheila Hall was the second PRHS student in two years to be invited to attend the prestigious Arkansas Governor’s School, a sixweek summer program for gifted students.

Federal Savings Bank of Rogers accepted the $50,000 offer from the City of Pea Ridge for nearly three acres of land. The city intends to use the land to build a new water tower.

Alan Spivey, 12, submitted art work to the Barrett Hamilton Young Arkansas Artists Competition and won $250 for PRHS Art Department.

The Pea Ridge School Board rehired all teachers recommended by principals for rehire. There were 82 certified employees.

The school calendar for the coming year was accepted with a starting date of Aug.

20 and an ending date of May 31.

The Avoca City Council passed an ordinance to change a street name and approved assessing fines against businesses not complying with the town’s business permit ordinance.

Baseball Blackhawk closed out conference play as undisputed conference champions. Pea Ridge was ranked No. 3 in the state in Class AA.

After two successful seasons at Crowder College, a two-year school located in Neosho, Mo., former Pea Ridge senior girls’ basketball standout, Heather Henson signed to complete her college athletic career at the College of the Ozarks in Branson.
