Dr. Justin Nolan, professor of anthropology at the University of Arkansas, will present a program entitled, "Arkansas Cherokee: Language, Culture, and Removal" at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. The program is sponsored by the Arkansas Chapter Trail of Tears Association (ARTOTA).

The Trail of Tears Association is a national support network for the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. Designated as a national historic trail by Congress in 1987, the Trail commemorates the forced removal of the Cherokee people from their homelands in the southeastern United States to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) in 1838-1839. The Arkansas Chapter focuses on the history and recognition of Indian removal routes through Arkansas.

Jews in the Ozarks

Mara Cohen Ioannides, president of the Midwest Jewish Studies Association, will present, "A History of Jews in the Ozarks" at noon Wednesday, March 21, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Ioannides is a senior instructor in the Department of English at Missouri State University, and specializes in American Jewish studies.

Film on Women's Suffrage Movement

Iron-Jawed Angels, a 2004 HBO film about the American women's suffrage movement in the 1910s starring Hillary Swank and Anjelica Huston, will be shown at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3. The free event is sponsored by Fayetteville Business and Professional Women.

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Wireless Society to Meet

The Ozark Wireless Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.
