Blackhawk tracksters sweep meet at Harrison

The Blackhawk boys and girls varsity track teams ran off with team honors at a five-team meet last week in Harrison.

Heather Wade's girls won first place in 11 of 17 events to win the title by a whopping 88 points over host Harrison. Pea Ridge scored 208, followed by Harrison with 121, Mountain Home 113, Clinton 110 and Yellville 25.

Asa Poteete's boys also won handily, outpointing Harrison 210-164 to take first with Clinton scoring 131, Yellville 62 and Mountain Home 58. The boys won 10 of the 17 events contested in the Friday meet.

After the meet, Wade said: "It was a good meet for us. It allowed us to get lots of kids involved and it also allowed some of them to compete in new events."

Shelby Dunlap led the girls' efforts, winning the 100 hurdles (17.63), 300 hurdles (50.33) and triple jump (34-8). She was a part of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams and also took fourth in the shot put (25'6"). The 4x100 relay also included Gabby Adams, Emma Stein and Cassidy Mooneyhan who won in 55.08. The 4x400 relay (4:58.29) had Ellie Ewald, Destiny Roughton and Emma Stein running with Dunlap for the other first.

Mooneyhan was another multi-winner. Besides the relay, the defending state pole vault champion won her specialty in 10'0" and was also the victor in the 200 (28.55).

Four other girls won individual first places with Adams winning the 100 (14.17), Roughton winning the 400 (1:11.07), Kynley Burton taking the high jump (5'0"), and Lindsay Law capturing the long jump (14'4"). Law was also fifth in the 100 (14.47), with Roughton adding to the point totals with a third in the 1,600 (7:23.4), fifth in the 800 (3:07.6), and fifth in the high jump (4'4").

Meredith Mitchell took two third places, one in the shot put (26'10") and also in the discus (74'8"). Besides competing as a leg on a winning relay, Ewald also took second in the 400 (1:15.0).

Tori Scrogham scored in three events, taking third in the pole vault (7'6"), fourth in the discus (66'6") and fourth in the long jump (13'10"). Stein ran on both winning relays and also took sixth in the 100 (14.53), fifth in the 200 (31.36), and eighth in the triple jump (24'8"). Leire Leon was sixth in the 200 (31.83), third in the long jump (14'0"), and sixth in the triple jump (29'10"). Nina Reed captured third in the 400 (1:17.81) and fourth in the 1,600 (7:34.0). Rounding out the scoring was Kimberly Ortiz, seventh in the discus (61'9") and Elizabeth Williams eighth in the long jump (12'10").

Dunlap scored 40 point to lead the Lady 'Hawks with a dozen other Lady 'Hawks scoring. Roughton tallied 26.5, Mooneyhan 22.5, Scrogham 16, Stein 13, Adams 12.5, Leon 12, Mitchell 12, Reed 11, Ewald 10.5, Burton 10, Ortiz 2 and Williams 1.

In the boys' division, Escajeda was a standout for the 'Hawks, winning the 400 (52.8), fifth in the triple jump (38'6") and was second in the 100 (11.7). He was also a member of both first place relay teams. Jordan Witcher was a four-time winner for the 'Hawks, taking firsts in the 200 (23.54), long jump (18'9Æ), running on the victorious 4x100 relay (45.09), the winning 4x400 relay (3:39.91), and he also took third in the 100 (11.77). Cooper Elliott and Shaed Cates were on both winning relays.

Kenny Dorsey was a double winner, taking both hurdle events. He won the 110 (16.59) and 300 (43.82). Elliott, Cates and Zach Woods took the other firsts, Elliott winning the 100 (11.48) with Woods taking the pole vault (11'6") while Cates took the 800 (2:14.6). Cates was also a fourth place finisher in the 100 (12.0) and grabbed eighth in the triple jump (37'9").

Justin Koon finished third in the 110 (16.69) and 300 hurdle (45.96) events, Trevor Henry was fourth in the 110 (18.49) fourth in the 300 (46.6) and eighth in the 400 (59.0). Adam Trammel was third in the 200 (25.42) and seventh in the 400 (58.5). Colby Norman was fifth in the 300 (46.8) and seventh in the 110 (19,21). Kevin Vasquez and Macguire Smith rounded out the running points with Vasquez eighth in the 1,600 (6:10.5) along with Smith's seventh in the 800 (2:24.8).

Robby Pickthal picked up two thirds in field events, one in the shot put (36'11") and the other in the discus (93'8"). Smith earned a fourth in the pole vault (9'6") with Samuel Beard getting sixth in the high jump (5'4").

Tristin Brewer placed in both the shot (third, 34'7") and discus (fourth, 91'11"). Zack Humphries was fifth in the discus (89'11"), Logan Spears was sixth in the discus (88'8"), Seth Temko was seventh in the high jump (5'4") and Aden Christenson was eighth in the pole vault (8'6").

The meet marked the first time that the Pea Ridge varsity boys have won a team competition in this millennium. The girls squad recently won the girls state indoor championship with the boys team taking third, both school records.
