Turn lanes designed to increase safety

Although traffic may be delayed during the days for the next month on Arkansas Highway 72 west of town, the final result of the construction there should provide for greater safety and make the traffic flow more smoothly, according to crew leader Justin Choate of the Arkansas Highway Department maintenance crew for District 9.

Choate and other Highway Department employees drive from Harrison daily to widen State Hwy. 72 and a portion of the south end of It'll Do Road in preparation for adding turn lanes on both roads. Choate said the work on It'll Do is in cooperation with Benton County.

There will be a 120-feet long turn lane for east bound traffic on State Hwy. 72 with 330-feet tapering, Choate said. There will be a 150-feet long turn lane on It'll Do Road.

Choate said he hopes the work will be completed within a month. The crews are working from about 9 a.m. until about 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
