Archeologists conduct research, provide presentations

Archeologists of the Arkansas Archeological Survey and volunteers with the Arkansas Archeological Society will arrive at Pea Ridge National Military Park (NMP) in June to conduct investigations at archeological sites within the park. The groups' annual training program, June 9--24, contributes to an ongoing cooperative research and management program with the National Park Service, and will be conducted alongside the University of Arkansas Archeological field school.

The public is welcome to stop by and visit on-site with the archeologists but please note that the archeologists are conducting approved research in partnership with the park and that it is illegal for the public to metal detect or dig in the park at any time; possess a metal detector, or damage cultural or natural resources. Maximum penalties are 10 years and/or a $100,000 fine.

Archeologists will provide four presentations and host an open house as part of the program. Presentations will be held in the Visitor Center Auditorium starting at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited and will be on a first come basis.

The day and topic of the presentations are:

• Friday, June 22: "What Did We Find Out: An Overview of the 2018 Field Season at Pea Ridge"

Dr. Jamie Brandon and Dr. Carl Drexler
