Blackhawks defeat Hass Hall, West Fork to stay undefeated

The boys varsity Blackhawk basketball team kept their conference record intact as they prepared for the showdown in Gravette Saturday night, beating West Fork 68-36 Tuesday, Jan. 2, before downing Haas Hall 57-44 Friday, Jan. 5.

The 'Hawks raced out to a 36-21 lead in the first half against the Tigers of West Fork, going to the bench often throughout the game. Senior Kobe Rose led the charge early, torching the Tigers with four bombs from behind the arc. Rose went on sink an astounding eight goals from downtown as he led all scorers with 26.

Carson Rhine added a trey in the early going, with Mike Mahoney adding a pair of field goals along with lone goals by Nick Coble and Hayden Holtgrewe. The Tigers' Burks scored nearly all his team's points (10) to try and fend off the 'Hawk charge.

The Tigers' Ramey scored all his team's points in the second period (two goals and a free throw) but the 'Hawks had four players in the scoring column in the period. Rose had his fifth trey along with two for two from the free throw line; Wesley Wales scored twice off the bench with Holtgrewe and Coble adding their own scores.

Rose dropped in two more deep shots in the third quarter with Landon Allison also adding a trey. Mahoney and Holtgrewe scored goals to round out the scoring with the 'Hawks limiting the Tigers to a pair of field goals and a free throw as the game was all but over with Pea Ridge leading 49-28 heading into the final period.

Six different 'Hawks scored in the final period, with Rose adding his eighth trey. Mahoney scored twice in the paint with Holtgrewe scoring a trey and regular field goal. Wilkerson added a bench bucket with Shepard adding the 'Hawks' 12th trey of the day. The 'Hawks total of 36 points from behind the arc matched the Tigers overall total.

Beside Rose's 26, other scorers included Holtgrewe, 11; Mahoney, 10; Allison, 5; Coble and Wales, 4 each; Sheppard and Rhine, 3 each; and Wilkerson, 2.

Pea Ridge 57, Haas Hall 44

The 'Hawks got out ahead early and gradually pulled away from the Mastiffs in a home conference game Friday.

Haas Hall's Owen came up with three field goals to lead the visitors but the 'Hawks countered with scores from four players to take a 14-8 first quarter lead. Carson Rhine and Nick Coble popped in treys to lead the charge, with 2-point goals from Wesley Wales and Coble sandwiched around a bucket and two-for-two free throw shooting by Mike Mahoney.

Coble went off offensively in the second quarter, striking for a pair of treys and three field goals with his 12-point outburst fueling a 17-9 offensive show in the period. Holtgrewe added a trey in the time frame with Mahoney scoring again in the paint. The 'Hawks led comfortably 31-17 at the break.

Holtgrewe and Rose kept up the pressure from the outside offensively, adding the team's sixth and seventh 3-pointers of the game. Holtgrewe added a layup with Wales scoring inside as well. Will Feemster drained a pair of free throws with Wales adding one of his own as Pea Ridge led 44-27 with one period to go.

The 'Hawk bench was cleared for the final quarter with Denver Yates and Wales leading the offensive charge with a pair of goals in the paint each. Coble, who led all scorers with 20, dropped in the team's last trey. Seven different Mastiffs scored in the final quarter but the 'Hawks were never seriously threatened.

Besides Coble's 20, the 'Hawks got 9 from Wales, 8 from Holtgrewe, 6 from Mahoney, and 3 each from both Rhine and Rose. Landon Allison and Feemster rounded out the scoring with 2 each.
