Trent Loyd's hardwood Blackhawks rolled over Lincoln 68-44, then shot down Haas Hall 57-30 last week to claim their second conference championship in as many years.

The 'Hawks began last week's games by hosting Lincoln and it got out of hand quickly. The 'Hawks jumped on their guests to lead 16-4 after one period and Lincoln never really threatened after that.

Playing on the road Friday, Feb. 2, the Blackhawks fell behind the Haas Hall Mastiffs 9-7 for their second lowest first quarter offensive output for the season. Pea Ridge's shooting got hotter over the last three period however, nailing 10 3-pointers to turn the game into a route. The 'Hawks' total of 12 treys for the game outscored Haas Hall's total scoring 36-30.

In the Lincoln game, Hayden Holtgrewe and Kobe Rose sparked the 'Hawks with first period treys with Nick Coble and Mike Mahoney tossing in a pair of field goals each. Rose also added a 2-pointer as Lincoln's Hale scored twice but was the only one to score at all for the guests.

Hale didn't score in the second period but five of his teammates did as the guests rang up 13 points. However, Coble, Mahoney, Holtgrewe, Rose and Will Feemster all scored field goals for the 'Hawks to lead the home boys to a 30-17 halftime bulge. Rose's goal was a trey with Mahoney dropping in two inside shots along with a free throw.

Lincoln's Sugg was hot in the third period, racking up three treys. Teammate Morphis scored 7 points himself to account for the rest of the Wolf offense. Rhine countered with a trey as did Rose with Rose, Holtgrewe and Mahoney scoring in the paint. Mahoney scored twice with Holtgrewe ripping two of two free throw attempts. When the third period ended, the Wolves were still staring at a 13-point deficit.

Morphis and Sugg each ripped a trey and a 2-pointer for Lincoln in the final period, but the 'Hawks responded with five Blackhawks denting the scoreboard as Pea Ridge outscored Lincoln 22-11 to end any suspense.

Chase Duncan, Coble and Holtgrewe all hit 3-balls in the fourth, with Coble, Holtgrewe and Rose adding shots from in close. Mahoney ruled the boards with a triple goal effort. The game ended with the 'Hawks winning by 24, 68-44.

Mahoney was the game's leading scorer with 19, followed by Rose and Holtgrewe with 15 each, Coble 11, Rhine and Duncan with 3 each, and Feemster with 2.

Pea Ridge 57 Haas Hall 30

Against Haas Hall, the 'Hawks came out shooting cold but their defense wasn't, limiting the home standing Mastiffs to just 9 points, keeping the 'Hawks within a bucket entering the second period. The only points the 'Hawks could muster were a trey each by Coble and Rhine, and a single free throw by Mahoney.

Pea Ridge erupted for 18 points in the second quarter, with Haas Hall upping their scoring with a 12-point effort, with the 'Hawks taking a lead into the half at 25-21. Rose led the charge by ripping two shots from behind the arc, with Holtgrewe adding a pair of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws. Coble hit a field goal and Mahoney scored two from the charity stripe to round out the scoring surge.

The third quarter saw the game turn into a rout with Pea Ridge outscoring the hosts 20-5 to build a 45-26 lead headed into the fourth quarter. Rose hit a pair of 3-balls with Coble and Holtgrewe hitting deep shots of their own. Holtgrewe and Wesley Wales scored from in close with Mahoney turning the trick twice.

The Blackhawk defense allowed the Mastiffs but a single field goal in the final period, while racking up a pair of treys and three regular field goals to end any doubt to the outcome. Holtgrewe and Coble nailed the treys with Denver Yates, Wales and Coble scoring inside the arc. The final buzzer sounded with the 'Hawks winning by 27, 57-30.

Holtgrewe led all scorers with 16 with Coble (13) and Rose (12) also reaching double figures. Mahoney scored 7, Wales 4, Rhine 3, and Yates, 2.

For the fourth straight game, a different 'Hawk led the team in scoring. Five different Blackhawks have led the team in scoring in the team's 25 games into the current season. Rose, Holtgrewe, Coble, Mahoney and Landon Allison have all shared the distinction. A rugged defense buttressed with balanced scoring has been a big part of the Blackhawk success this year.

The 'Hawks were scheduled to play home to Prairie Grove Tuesday, Feb. 6, with their final regular season game set for Elkins in the Elks gym. District play for 4A-1 will begin next week.

The wins raised the 'Hawks' seasonal won-loss record to 21-4, 15-1 in conference play.
