School elections move to May

School elections will be held in May in Pea Ridge as School Board members adopted a resolution as a result of Act 910 by the state legislature which provides for the election to be held in either May or November.

"Legislators are trying to get more people out to vote," school superintendent Rick Neal explained to the board members.

The Boys & Girls Club in Pea Ridge is growing with anywhere from 100 to 105 children attending daily, according to assistant superintendent Keith Martin, who said last year, there were 40 children in attendance. He said other clubs in the area have about 50 percent attendance but that Pea Ridge has 85 to 90 percent attendance.

Martin said there is also a waiting list for the pre-kindergarten program and he is working to secure more funding to grow that program.

In other business, the board:

• Approved consent agenda;

• Accepted resignation of Barbara Bateman;

• Approved out-of-state trip to FCCLA Cluster meeting in Okahoma City; and

• In the annual board realignment, elected John Dye as president, Jeff Neil as vice president, Ryan Heckman as secretary.
