Storage unit plan OKd by city

A large scale development plan was approved for the Pickens Road Storage being developed by RKR Properties at the regular Planning Commission Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Planners did not take action on two other requests which were on the agenda as there was no one present to speak on the requests. One was a home occupation request for 702 Drew Lane from Katherine Gastineau. The other request was for a "container home" by Jonathan Belew with a structure moving request.

City building official Tony Townsend said the city does not have any specific guidelines for a container or tiny home. He said the request fits in the ordinance for moving a structure.

"This cube is already built," Townsend said. "They just need to add electric and plumbing and outside finishes."

Developer Kevin Felgenhauer and his wife, Linda, were in the audience and asked to speak to the issue noting that there are covenants in the subdivision where Belew wants to place the container.

"We own three of the lots," Mrs. Felgenhauer said. "We all built per that covenant."

"When he submitted it, he said he didn't have a lot picked out," Townsend said.

"It would take five to eight containers and a garage to meet the covenants," Felgenhauer said.

"We can't help you with covenants," Dr. Karen Sherman said, referring to a recent home occupation request that violated subdivision covenants and for which a legal opinion was sought. City officials were informed that the Planning Commission is not responsible for enforcing covenants.

The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of the month in City Hall.
