Makayla Wishon and Jake Adams were crowned as the first Mr. and Miss PRHS Saturday night at the initial pageant sponsored by Beta Alpha.
Wishon, 17, is a senior. The daughter of Lana and Bobby Ledbetter, she is a member of Powder Puff football and is a cheerleader. She enjoys dance, cheer, swimming and hanging out with friends watching Razorback ball. Some of her volunteer activities include being a dog walker and cat friends at the Rogers Animal Shelter, reading to children at the Rogers library and she loves going to the Pea Ridge Battlefield Park.
When asked how, as an ambassador representing the school. she would bring awareness to stop bullying, Wishon said "Calling it out. Speaking about how people treat each other. Bullying can be anything from just joking to being serious. People take things differently and you don't know what's going on in somebody's life. Your words do hurt people whether you're joking or not."
Adams, 16, is a sophomore at Pea Ridge High School. The son of Marty and Bethanne Adams, he plays football, baseball and is a member of FCA. He is also a member of the Messiah Lutheran church youth group. His hobbies include mudding, music, fishing and working out. Some of his volunteer activities include helping move playground equipment, helping on a farm, helping run chains for Pee Wee football teams and attending church events with the inspiration that it's important to be a Christian. His plans for the future include becoming a marine biologist and possibly playing college sports. He said he hopes to continue to help others on and off the field and be an inspiration for not only to the youth of Pea Ridge but everyone with whom he comes in contact.
When asked why he likes the club he represents, Adams said, "FCA is an organization of future Christian athletes on and off the field. Football and baseball, I have a passion for."
He said he believed the primary role of a school ambassador should be to promote anti-bullying. "To cheer somebody up and say 'Hey, how was your day.' To talk to them and get their energy up."
First runner up was Gabrielle Stills, 14, a freshman. The daughter of Keith and Heather Stills, she is a member of the Drama Club, Theater, Ridgetones, Ambassadors Against Bullying and was fifth-chair All Region Choir 2016-17.
Second runner up was Bridget Willis, 16, a junior. She is the daughter of Shane and Shelly Willis and a member of PRHS DECCA Club, Spanish Club and she plays volleyball.
There was one contestant for Mr. PRHS.
Other contestants for Miss PRHS included sophomore Kloey Evenson, 15, daughter of Megan Bryant and Aaron Evenson; senior Katelyne Ball, 17, daughter of Luis Canizales and Natasha Ball-Canizales; senior Colby Willett, 17, daughter of Tammie Walker; and sophomore Lillian Peters, daughter of Danny and Kelly Stevenson.
Each contestant was asked a question provided by other contestants and one from the judges. Each spoke of the damage done by bullying and the need to stop it. Several said
