Massive rainfall inundates area

Little Sugar Creek traverses Big Sugar Golf Course in a valley south of Pea Ridge; Saturday, it took over the course as it raged out of its banks after nearly 10 inches of rain fell over the end of the week.

Excess water created several beautiful waterfalls from a small spring on the side of a hill north of Sugar Creek Road south of Pea Ridge Saturday.

Blue herons continued to watch for fish and actually enlarged their territory standing on the inundated golf course greens as the water from Sugar Creek formed pools on the course.

The Benton County Road Department closed Sugar Creek Road running west off Ark. Hwy. 94 south of Pea Ridge. The southern intersection of Ryan Road and Sugar Creek was flooded and littered with debris as the waters receded.

A blue heron took flight over the flooded Sugar Creek valley Saturday.

As debris backed up on the upstream side of the Peck Road bridge over Sugar Creek, the waters rose to cross the top of the bridge right after dawn Saturday morning.

City Street Department superintendent Nathan See and employees Tom Sheets and Dillon Carney worked diligently through a respite from the downpours Saturday to remove debris from the upstream side of the Peck Road bridge assisted by contractor Mr. Trotter.

As the debris piled higher, the water on the upstream side of Peck Road bridge rose higher, spilling onto the pavement.

Big Sugar Golf Course greens stood as islands in the flooding of this weekend.

A portion of Easterling Road was closed due to flooding.
