RV park proposed

Jeff Arnold of Big Sugar Golf Club has requested a rezoning of property on Sugar Creek Road for an RV park and resort.

Arnold is the owner of the 14-acre property, located east of Big Sugar Golf Club, for which he has requested a zoning change from Agricultural 1 to Commercial. The rezoning request went before the Pea Ridge Planning Commission on June 6.

Arnold said he couldn't say much about the proposed RV park at this time.

"We're still working on the zoning. It's all in the talking phase," he said.

The zoning request was to be considered by the Pea Ridge Planning Commission at its regular meeting Tuesday, June 6.

Asked how he came up with the idea for an RV park, he said, "I just have some land sitting there watching it waste. I wanted to find a way to create some revenue. I bought the property to build a house on."

He added he has not done much work on the project because "I'm leasing the golf course; I'm entering my third year. Everything has taken a back burner because of that."

If approved, the RV park will have 42 spots and numerous amenities, including a swimming pool, grills, pavilion, bathrooms, exercise room, laundry room, WiFi, cable and a dog park, Arnold said.

He said he has given the project "a lot of thought, just haven't had time to put heat to the iron yet."

Earth Plan Designs of Springdale is designing the park for Arnold, he said. He will build it himself. It will be a winter project because "priority number one is my golf course," he said.

Pea Ridge building official Tony Townsend said Sugar Creek Road will have to be widened for RVs and campers to pass beside each other on the road.
