Council hires Bearden

GARFIELD -- City Council members heard a report from Mike Bearden, attorney, who purchased Slinkard Law Firm, and is under consideration for city attorney.

Code enforcement officer Zannie Morrison told the council he believes the city should have a building inspector, according to the rough draft of the minutes from the Feb. 14 City Council meeting.

Aldermen unanimously approved the resolution to appoint Bearden as city attorney.

A proposal from Dr. Suzan Holt providing a city Website was approved.

In other business, aldermen:

• Tabled an ordinance setting code enforcement fees;

• Agreed to investigate possibility of building inspector and tabled discussion until March meeting;

• Heard a report from Zannie Morrison on sign ordinance from Planning Commission; Mayor Gary Blackburn carried the issue forward to the March meeting; and

• Heard a request from alderman Katherine Shook to consider speed limit signs on Wimpy Jones at the March meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
