Bid for roads OKd

City officials accepted the only bid provided on custom seal for street work during the regular August City Council meeting.

A bid for $42,524 was received from Custom Pavement Maintenance and Safety from Van Buren, Ark., for crack seal service for It'll Do Road, Weston Road, McCulloch Street, Ford Street, Chapman, McNaire Street and McNair Place as well as complete restriping of 4-inch reflective pavement markings for Weston Street.

The annual city cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 21-23, according to Nathan See, Street Department superintendent.

Council members authorized Mayor Jackie Crabtree to negotiate with the owners of T.H. Rogers and their request to either purchase or trade for land owned by the city behind the business downtown.

"I would be in favor of considering it and more likely for a trade of a piece of property we could use," Ray Easley, council member, said.

"It would be a great thing for our city for them to expand, I think," Sandy Button, city clerk, said. "I think they're going to use it for storage."

The mayor said the city would pay for an appraisal.

City officials approved a resolution allowing the city to apply for a 50-50 matching grant for a splash pad at the City Park planned for placement between the park pavilion and the current restroom because of requirements by the state Health Department of proximity of restroom facilities. The mayor said insurance could be purchased through the Municipal League.
