Farmers market vendors stay busy

Heading into fall season soon

The last case of peaches for the season at the Pea Ridge Farmers Market sold Sunday.

Fruits continue to be a very popular item and some of the fruit is almost all sold out for the season.

Pea Ridge Farmers Market organizer Carol Roper said business remains very steady and the recent hot, sunny weather has aided in more customers seeking summer produce and fruit.

While some peaches and pears were popular on Sunday, Roper will offer apples in coming weeks and maybe some grapes.

It's been a busy season for those involved in the market. What started out as a Sunday-only offering expanded to Thursdays as well. More and more people are seeking fresh veggies and fruit, as well as honey, jams and jellies, meat and eggs, baked goods and more.

Roper said customers have expressed interest in having the opportunity to purchase goods from local folks, which is convenient and gives back to the community.

Some have expressed gratitude and appreciation that the market is small, easy to access and open twice a week.

With youngsters in school and the weather starting to change in coming weeks, local farmers are preparing to plan their fall gardens. Roper is planting some broccoli and cabbage for a fall harvest.

Vendors also are planning to add a different feature or two for this fall, possibly in October. Though plans are not finalized, vendors are continuing to think of ways to attract more customers as the seasons change.

The Pea Ridge Farmers Market, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday, is located at 197 Slack St. For information, visit the Pea Ridge Farmers Market or Heritage Gardens Facebook pages.
