Home business OKd

Planning Commission members approved several home occupation requests at the regular August meeting.

Approved were a request from Damon Kjeistad, 1040 Weston St., for a business that is a window washing business; a business to sell educational aids and supplements by Kathy Humphrey at 1125 Richards St.; and a request by Watson and Natasha Neal at 535 Lynn Dr. for an online women's and children's clothing boutique.

Kjeistad said there would be no customers or large equipment at the house and that, although he rents his home, he believes his landlords will approve. He was asked to get a letter of approval from them.

A home occupation request for 1425 Lee St. by John Gibson was tabled for the second month as no representative was present.

A large scale development for a shopping center by Pat Tobin on Slack Street was approved after discussion of the plans. "We will build at this time," Tobin said after planners voted unanimously to approve the plans.

Planners agreed to meet again for a tech review on Thursday to review a new zoning ordinance.

Prairie View Duplexes

At a tech review meeting Thursday, planners met with Rob Miller of RLP Development to discuss a preliminary plat for duplexes planned for immediately north of the storage facility on Weston Street. There were multiple questions about drainage and problems with Property Owners Associations as planners asked Miller who would be responsible for maintining common property.

City Water Department employee Mike Nida advised Miller about water lines and addition of a dead-end valve. Nida told Miller the city's facilities manual clearly states the required specifications and is available for his review.

Recommendations were made to Miller to relay to the engineer who was not present. The plans will be presented again next month.
