Gibson to study in Kew, London

Special to The TIMES

Audrey Gibson, of Pea Ridge, is finishing her junior year at Smith College where she is majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in German studies.

Her interest in biology, specifically biodiversity, ecology and conservation, stemmed from her love of plants at an early age when she collected seeds from wildflowers and grew them to observe their development. She is delighted to work at the Smith College Botanic Garden as the Education and Exhibition intern where she is surrounded by plants and plant enthusiasts. When she is not busy writing, researching and editing news articles or information panels for the Botanic Garden, she enjoys searching the greenhouse, finding new and unfamiliar plants to sketch.

This summer, Gibson will be investigating polyploidy evolution by studying genomes of non-model plants at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, London. She hopes to continue her knowledge of plants through research and by spreading information to a larger audience.

She is the daughter of John and Stacey Gibson.
