Police officers, their wives and children were treated to a dinner and special service Saturday, Sept. 10.

The members of First Assembly of God, Pea Ridge, served dinner and presented police officers with plaques and the children gave officers a special gift. Pastor Edwin Brewer said "You are the reason we can go to bed confident. You do the work we cannot do and go where we cannot go."

Beginning a new series of Saturday evening services, Brewer and the church members honored police during the first Saturday service.

"We are very grateful for the continued support from our community and the members of the First Assembly of God Church," Police Chief Ryan Walker said. "We were very honored to be their guests on Saturday and appreciate everyone's work to make that happen."

As the service began, Brewer read from Ezekiel 22:30: "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none."

"You stand in the gap for us and for that we are very, very grateful. You deal with the worst with the least amount of violence possible. The thin blue line binds," Brewer said.

"This is a special day honoring our police force. I've been wanting to do this for three or four years," Brewer said.

Brewer said that "... until evil is vanquished" police officers will continue to "stand in the gap between the evil and the innocent."

"We need you. We say 'thank you,'" Brewer said, praising the officers and their family members. "Without them, there would be chaos in this world."
