Van Houden named leader

A former Pea Ridge student is among the 2016-17 class of students participating in the Chancellor's Leadership Council scholarship program, the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith announced.

She is Allie Van Houden of Pea Ridge, education major and daughter Tina and John Van Houden.

Van Houden graduated from Pea Ridge High School, where she was president of the National Honors Society and involved in Student Council, yearbook committee, Community Service Club and was the captain of the golf team.

The CLC scholarship is a highly competitive program for students demonstrating leadership capabilities and strong academic performance. Students selected for the scholarship enroll in a three-hour leadership course taught by Dr. Paul B. Beran, UAFS chancellor, with assistance from Dr. Elizabeth Underwood, associate vice chancellor of government and university relations. Students also embrace leadership roles on campus and complete service projects in the community.
