Blackhawk Basketball begins

From Staff Reports

Blackhawk basketball is off to a winning start with both the Lady Blackhawks and the Blackhawks winning their first contests.

Pea Ridge 64 - Rogers 48

The Blackhawks took on 7A Rogers Tuesday night in a benefit game and defeated the larger school by 16 points.

"I'm extremely proud of the way we defended against Rogers," coach Trent Loyd said. "With it being the first game of the year, you expect things not to be perfect, but our guys gave great effort. In the first half we were not attacking downhill like we wanted to. In the second half we were able to make that happen and started creating easy baskets for ourselves. It was a great team win that we can build off of."

Scores were made by Blackhawks Joey Hall 26, Matt Thomas, 19, Logan Johnson 7, Blake Willis 5, Joseph Beard 3, Kobe Rose 3 and Cole Wright 1.

Lady Blackhawks 51 - 44 Marshall

at Green Forest, Nov. 7

"We had a great tournament in our opening week," coach Heath Neal said. "Our ladies did a lot of really good things. They played really well on the defensive side of the ball.

We are continuing to get better every week and happy with where we are right now."

Scorers were Jennifer Anthony, 27; Hollyn Davis, 6; Maggie Fletcher and Melissa Landis, 4 each; Alli Whatley, 3; Avery Dayberry, 2; and Catherine Hooten, 1.
