My name is MAtt Smith. I’m 12 years old, and I’m in seventh grade. My favorite holiday is Christmas because Jesus was born on that day. My favorite thing to do is to go outside because I like to be outside. I also like P.E. because I like to stay active. Being an author on this Anthology makes me feel ok.

New Year's

White, fluffy, cold snow is falling outside. The shiny Christmas tree is empty of presents. I sit looking out the window at the snow when my brother, Jeremy comes into the room. "Hey man, can you believe it's New Year's? I asked.

"Dude, quit talking about what day it is. We all know it's New Year's. You don't have to act like you are in a Christmas movie and the someone who talks in the beginning," Jeremy replies.

Well, I don't care what my brother says because I like Christmas movies. Let me introduce myself. My name is Matt, and I'm the kind of kid who tries to get himself out of trouble when he is in trouble. I have two brothers, but I don't live with them. Their names are Noah and Jeremy who you met earlier. They are visiting for the holidays and about to drive me crazy.

The trouble started this morning. When I first woke up, my room was very cold, so I looked out the window, and I saw snow on the ground. Then I ran downstairs and saw an empty Christmas tree. Then as I turned around, I saw my brother standing with a big smile.

"Yes!" Jeremy yells.

"Shh," I said. "Dad will hear you, and he will get mad. He will ask what all of this yelling is for, and we would have to make something up to get out of trouble. So don't yell as loud!"

My brother, Noah, came down the stairs. "You guys don't have to worry about Dad hearing you. He's gone somewhere in the Hummer."

"That's cool! I can go back to sleep, so that I can go to a party tonight with my girl, Beth," Jeremy said.

Noah said, "Hey, Matt. I have the best idea. Let's have a party."

"That sounds great! Who are you going to invite?" I asked.

"Everybody who wants come," Noah replies.

So we call our friends and tell them to come over to our party. We can hardly wait for the party to start, but we take the time to make some food and get some drinks on ice.

After two hours passed and no one arrived, we look at each other and sigh. Noah said sadly, "I guess no one is coming. We better clean up in case Dad comes home."

I was bummed, but I didn't want to be, so I picked up a chip and threw it at Noah. Noah just looked at me for a minute before he picked up a piece of ice and launched at me. I ducked just in time, and the ice hit the wall making a dent in the sheet rock. Then, we just picked up food and drink and had a massive food fight. Just then, we heard the door open, and Dad walked into the kitchen.

"What do you boys think you are doing?" Dad screamed.

Noah said, "Having fun!"

"You are going to think having fun if you don't get this mess cleaned up right this second!" Dad ordered.

"What? That's illegal," I joked.

At the look on Dad's face, we decided to clean it up quickly. The kitchen was back to normal in under five minutes.

"Now, I want you boys to stay in your rooms for the rest of the night, and you get to miss the New Year's party," Dad said.

So we spent a very boring night in our rooms watching the snow fall outside our windows and missed a really cool New Year's party.
