Retirement is a busy time

Quote from Sophocles: "One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life. That word is love!"

I can't pronounce his name, but I agree with him.

A niece in Iowa is prepping to retire and wants to know what I do with my days. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I spend at the Rogers Wellness Center. Two of those days are in the Peppi exercise classes. There are 20-30 people doing easy yoga like movements to restore mobility, strength and balance, besides the camaraderie. Jack Moody teaches these classes and our very own Bob Webb is his substitute. I walk laps also. Fourteen laps is a mile and I've never made that. There are machines, but it takes some smart to run them and I'm waiting for a smart day. Wednesdays are my garden volunteer day and any day I want to work with the garden women. I spend time in the library and drinking coffee with friends in the lounge. I attended several lectures and there are two swimming pools. That leaves me four days to run free.

Oh, Friday is grocery day and it's difficult to run free in Aldi aisles.

I just have never had any regrets over retiring and she'll get the hang of it! In fact, I'm now trying to cut back on activities so I can spend more time at home. Every morning when I get up, something hurts -- leg, arm or hip. The next morning, somewhere different will be hurting and the next, the same, so it is my effort to stay active and flexible so I can weed flower beds and yard. I use a battery weed whip. My kids won't let me use the gas whip. I guess they value their tires and the bark on the trees.

On the letter page, it was told that former governor Mike Huckabee said the reason he was exiting the race was because of illness. the voters were sick of him.

I guess spring is here. The moles have turned the yard over already. Also, I'm finding ants on the counter. Next, will be mosquitoes, flies, chiggers and ticks. Bring it on!

In the middle of my spring cleaning, my husband always made the same remark. You always take the wood stove down too early!!!

Random thoughts of the month.

• Harrison Ford is taring in the July release of "Indiana Jones." There had been talk of replacing him.

• Do you think Apple should hack into the Syed Farrooks' phone? Because when it's done, once it's open to all future cases.

• Maundy Thursday service is to be held at Brightwater Methodist Church and Good Friday services are at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. Both are at 7 p.m.
