The city entered into a contract with McClelland Consulting Engineers to provide engineering services for the extension of city water lines on Plentywood Road.

The area around Plentywood Road is within the city's Water Department territory, according to Ken Hayes, Water Department superintendent, who approached the City Council in May about extending the lines within that area.

"We need to extend that line pretty quickly," Hayes told city officials.

"If we can do it, it's a good idea to serve those people," Mayor Jackie Crabtree said, telling city officials that there is not much maintenance required once a water line is installed.

Council member Ray Easley questioned the extension saying he didn't see how the project could be justified financially. "I see it as expending our responsibility without gaining. I just see tremendous expense all over the place."

"There are over 200 homes on Plentywood," Hayes said.

A resolution authorizing the contract with McClelland was approved at the Tuesday, June 21, City Council meeting.

In other business, the Council appointed Hayes as the director to the Benton/Washington Rural Water Authority Board with the mayor as the alternate.

Mayor Jackie Crabtree, City Clerk Sandy Button and aldermen Bob Cottingham, Ray Easley, Steve Guthrie and Lance Sanders were present, as was city attorney Howard Slinkard.
