Boil order in effect

GARFIELD --A valve malfunction caused a loss of water pressure in some water pipes in Garfield. The malfunction was quickly repaired, according to Mayor Gary Blackburn.

In order to comply with state law concerning water safety, a temporary boil order was issued.

By Monday morning, city officials took water samples that were being delivered by courier to Little Rock, Blackburn said.

"As soon as we get results, we will cancel the boil order," Blackburn said. "It's still in affect. We expect the results by Wednesday."

Sam's Wholesale Club "gave us a good deal" on bottles of water, the mayor said, adding that the city had given away about 25 cases of water to residents requesting them. "People have been pretty understanding."
