It's time to register to vote!

The Story/Craft Hour at the library will resume at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3. The children will make Valentines that will be displayed in the library. It will be nice to have the children back.

I saw a posting on Facebook regarding the Arkansas Primary Election on March 1. Although I am a registered voter, I decided to check the web site for a copy of the Arkansas Voter Registration application. To register, one is required to provide a driver's license number or the last four digits of their Social Security Number and answer four questions. If a resident was previously registered in another county or state, or to change the name or address on a current registration, there is a section to be completed. A voter must apply to register to vote 30 days before the election.

Here are the qualifications to meet to register to vote in Arkansas:

• Be a U.S. citizen.

• Be an Arkansas resident (residing in Arkansas at least 30 days prior to the first election in which to vote)

• Be 18 years of age or turn 18 on or before the next election

• Not be a convicted felon whose sentence has not been discharged or pardoned

• Not be presently adjudged as mentally incompetent as to your ability to vote by a court of competent jurisdiction.

In order to vote in the primary, a voter must register by Feb. 1. To register, visit the Benton County Clerk's office. The library has a copy of the Arkansas Voter Registration application if you want to stop in and look at it. Your vote counts.

I'd like to believe that the winter weather we received last week was it for this winter, but I doubt that is the case. If the library will be opening late or will be closed, we will post that information on the library Facebook page. Just log on and search for Pea Ridge Community Library. To make sure you have an ample supply of reading material you could purchase a few of our many $1 used books or even find something in the free table.

See you at the library!
