Many large print books in stock

Disappointment reigns at my house since the Power Ball drawing and I learned I didn't win anything! My dream of wintering in Hawaii has evaporated along with the dream of sharing the wealth with my children and, of course, the library. The hope of winning that jackpot sure gave us something to dream of and talk about.

The time has come for us to clear out the unfinished room at the library in preparation for turning that space into a multi-purpose room. For the library staff and volunteers that means clearing out all the clutter. And trust me the clutter abounds. We can no longer accept book donations. That breaks my heart as I live with the hope of finding a rare book that can be sold for thousands of dollars. There are many places in the area that will accept your donations -- The Friendly Book Store in Rogers, Helping Hands and Goodwill to name a few. I am so thankful for the volunteers who have been so helpful in cleaning up that area.

The library received a large donation of Western paperback books last week and purchased 28 large print books, some paperback but mostly hardcover. As I have mentioned before, large print books are very popular with our readers. Some of the Westerns have only been read once and are in like new condition. We are continuing to complete the various series by the more popular authors.

People often tell us they would love to work in the library because they love to read. We love to read also but unfortunately there is no time in our work day for reading. As we process each new book, you can hear us say how much we would like to read this new one by a popular fiction writer or some great new non-fiction book knowing that it may be months before we actually check it out. We try to at least read a brief synopsis of a book to be able to discuss it with a patron.

With the arrival of old man winter, I want to remind you to call the library or check the Pea Ridge Community Library Facebook page when there is inclement weather. We make every effort to keep our scheduled hours. If the library should be closed on a day that you have library materials due, you will not be charged a late fee. But you must return them to the library as soon as weather permits.

See you at the library!
