Museum open house

The Shiloh Museum's eighth annual "Cabin Fever Reliever" open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, in the museum. The event will feature displays by some two dozen local collectors. Among the collections to be shown are railroad memorabilia, pincushions, rocks, matchstick holders, pottery, comic books, teapots, nutcrackers, antique dress patterns, Boy Scout collectibles, reproductions of ancient Native American instruments, belt buckles, wedding cake toppers, miniature houses, mechanical oddities, Frank Zappa collectibles, and Ozark folk healing items. Staff members from the Arkansas Archeological Survey will be on hand with a special display of historical artifacts from the Survey's collection.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the museum's new permanent exhibit focusing on the 1860-1920 era. Museum educators Judy Costello, Aaron Loehndorf and Carly Squyres, curators of the exhibit, will be stationed in the exhibit to discuss that period in Ozark history.

Civil War Ozarks

Shiloh Museum outreach coordinator Susan Young will present "Kith, Kin and Claims on Chicken Bristle Mountain," a program about the effects of the Civil War on a Washington County community at noon Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

LifeWriters

LifeWriters, a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends, will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. For information, call June Jefferson at 790-2588 or visit shilohmuseum.org.

Sacred Harp Singers

The Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. The museum is located at 118 W. Johnson Avenue in downtown Springdale.

Herb Society

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.
