Great things planned

Library welcomes donations

Another year is over and a new year is just beginning. My only resolution this year is to try and enjoy every moment and make the best of everything that comes my way. So many good things have happened at the library the past couple of years and we expect more great things in 2016.

Seeing the sunshine after all the rain that fell after Christmas is wonderful. It sure has brightened my mood.

We did have some water in a small area at the library but are hopeful that issue has been resolved. We are moving forward, albeit slowly, on completing the last room in the library. This will be a dream come true for the Library Board and me. Plans will be discussed at our board meeting on Jan. 7.

Now that the holidays are behind us, we can once again have free and low cost books available. We will be offering Christian Fiction, Romance, Sci-Fi -- Fantasy, and a number of non-fiction books on a variety of topics. You really need to stop in and take a look.

In checking the latest New York Times Best Seller list, I discovered that we have 11 out of the 15 titles on their list. My plans are to continue purging books in the children's area and adding some new ones. Children's books get a lot of use. We will also be adding books for our Middle Grade Readers as well as purchasing several new Young Adult Books.

As usual when I have nothing to write about, I do some online research for some interesting facts about our beautiful state. Did you know the origin of state's name is the French interpretation of a Sioux word acansa, meaning downstream place? Or that the honeybee is the official state insect. It was officially designated in 1973. This fact is probably known by everyone in this area -- the Buffalo River is one of the few remaining unpolluted, free-flowing rivers in the lower 48 states. And the last fact -- the diamond is the official state gem and in June 2015, a woman found an 8.52-carat white diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park. Wouldn't that make the drive there worth it?

Several of our patrons are having some health issues and we want them to know we miss them and look forward to seeing them soon.

See you at the library!
