Teeselink wins

GARFIELD -- Jim Teeselink will be one of two new aldermen on the Garfield City Council. He won the run-off election last week (Nov. 29) against incumbent Leonard Matthew Jr. garnering 83 percent of the 72 votes cast.

He had initially been the front runner in the four-way race earning 41.41 percent of the votes in the general election Nov. 8. Because no one had 50 percent of more of the votes, a run-off election was scheduled between the two candidates earning the most votes. Matthew had 22 percent of the votes in the general election.

There were 72 votes cast in the run off election and 240 cast in the general election. There are 307 active registered voters and 46 inactive registered voters in the Garfield city limits according to the Benton County office.
