We have had a very exciting event happen at the library! Our first Friends of the Pea Ridge Community Library was established last Wednesday. Why is this so exciting you might ask.

Let me explain. Our dear library was started by community members who knew the value of a library to our Pea Ridge community. The Friends of the Library group will provide funds to the library for needs other than those budgeted by the city. They will be advocates for the library; they will fund raise and help with library publicity.

Library hours

Monday-Friday: 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Our first meeting consisted of wonderful patrons excited to learn more and get down to business. Our president is Hope Leonard, vice president is Carrie Staten, secretary is Leslie Hatheway and the treasurer is Gloria Broadbooks. The Board of Directors consists of Ronda Hall, Cynthia Tarnasky and Alex Wright. I will act as liaison between the library's Board of Trustees and the Friends organization. The Memorandum of Understanding between Friends and Library was written along with the bylaws. I presented our wish list, trying to keep it to a minimum as I have pages of community activities and educational courses I would love to see our library bring to the Pea Ridge community.

The next order of business will be to apply for a 501(c)(3). This is will take a lawyer which will be quite costly. If you have any suggestions or could help please contact the library as soon as possible. The Friends of the Pea Ridge Library will meet at 6 p.m. every fourth Wednesday of the month in the library. The next meeting will be Sept. 27. We still have plenty of room for you to join us. There is a lot to do!

The Wednesday Story Time is going very well. There is always an abundance of sweet littles coming to listen and make a craft.

We will be starting a fantastic reading buddy program with children from the Intermediate and High Schools coming together here at the library to practice their reading abilities. Stay tuned for more information either in your child's backpack or here at the library.

One last thing, I urge you to stop by and take a look at our beautiful art display. Mr. McGee from our school district will bring art students create. The talent is pretty astonishing for only the Intermediate grade level!
