Crowder College at the McDonald County Campus will offer a new course, Certified Medical Assisting Program, beginning this fall.

Crowder invited hospital recruiters and human resources personnel from the northwest Arkansas area to an open house on April 7 to help build support for the new program and get their insight regarding Crowder's moving forward with the program.

Aaron Divine, MA History, University of Nebraska, Director at the Crowder McDonald County Campus, said the founder of the new program is Debbie Kennedy, RN, MSN, Allied Health Programs and Division Chair at the Neosho Crowder campus.

"There is a need for certified medical assistants in urgent care, hospitals, and clinics," Kennedy said.

"Students can dive right into the program--there are no course pre-requisites necessary.

Applicants are required to provide academic history by having high school transcripts or GED scores, plus any previous college transcripts, sent to the Crowder Records Office at the time of enrollment.

Students should have a desire to work in the medical field."

Divine said, "We are now accepting applications for the program at the Crowder McDonald County Campus or at the Webb City campus. It is a first-come, first-serve application process. The first class starts Aug. 22, 2016. Applications will be accepted until we receive the first 25 qualified applicants."

"Crowder tuition is affordable and competitive," Divine said.

Cash, payment plan, scholarship, or financial aid payment arrangements must be made by the first day of regular enrollment. Financial Aid can be applied for online at www.fafsa.gov, Crowder College School Code: 002459. All A+ program and CAMP students must complete the FAFSA.

Applications may be completed online at www.Crowder.edu. A Placement Exam is required that will help the academic advisor place applicants in the correct English, Reading and Math classes. To schedule a testing time, call 417-455-5433 or any off-campus site.

To review the schedule of classes, check the course schedules under the Academics tab on the "My Crowder" link at www.Crowder.edu.

The physical locations of the new course will be Mondays and Wednesdays at the McDonald County campus and Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Webb City campus.

The certified medical assisting certificate program is a one-year program which prepares students for employment as a certified medical assistant and also provides students a career path to the certified Medical Assisting Associate Degree which requires two years.
