Carter resigns

GARFIELD -- Alderman Malania Carter submitted her resignation from the Garfield City Council Monday, according to Mayor Gary Blackburn.

"I thank you for letting me serve this community for the past 11 years," Carter wrote in her letter.

"While I've enjoyed most of my time," Carter said Tuesday morning, "I find I do not enjoy it any longer.

"I do not have the patience required to mediate matters, compromise and try to be the voice or reason with our current leadership. I encourage those that do not understand what I mean by that statement to listen to the audio tapes of the City Council meetings. It is my sincerest hope that professionalism and respect returns to this city," Carter wrote.

Blackburn said the letter does not necessarily mean Carter's resignation is official, explaining that the council has to act on it.
