Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

The founder of the Pea Ridge Community Library, Miss Maxine Morrison, who has headed the Library Board since its inception, resigned. The library was born a year ago in June with an idea by Morrison and some books donated by a new pastor, the Rev. Bob Richardson. By fall, the library, through the interest and contributions of many, was able to purchase a permanent building which was deeded over to the city.

A mobile home was destroyed by a lightning fire about 3 a.m. Friday during a severe electrical storm here. It was the 14- by 40-foot mobile home of Mrs. Jane Hickman, who resided in the yard at the home of her son, Joe, a mile and half southwest of Pea Ridge. Because of the stormy conditions, Mrs. Hickman was spending the night with her son and daughter-in-law. A neighbor, Elmer Evans, first saw the blaze and contacted the Hickmans.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Tempers flared at the Pea Ridge City Council meeting Sept. 20 when a councilman learned that Standing Oaks' standing water has been been fixed. "That dead horse keeps coming back to life," councilman Jerry Burton said. "It's been three months since those ladies came to us for help." The most recent solution includes a narrow retention pond and ditch on the east side of the development on school district property.

Saturday marked the 12th year that the NEBCO Turkey Shoot was held and the second year for the Rib Cook-off. The fundraiser is critical to NEBCO's ability to maintain its level of protection in northeastern Benton County. NEBCO Fire Chief Rob Taylor said that the money raised from Saturday's event would go toward the department's general fund. The team sponsored by Seratt's Concrete and J&K Storage took first place in this year's cook-off. Chefs for the team were Mark Seratt, Missy Armstrong and Steve and Peggy Jones.
