Barry Moehring (R - Bentonville) has announced his candidacy for the office of Benton County Judge in the upcoming 2016 election.

"We live, work and raise our kids in a wonderful community," said Moehring. "By one projection, Benton County is going to add another 50,000 residents in the next 10 years. We need a county-wide vision and a plan to handle that growth."

Moehring has more than 20 years of experience in private sector executive positions including with Walmart, The Walt Disney Company and DreamWorks Animation. He is also serving a second term on the Benton County Quorum Court where he is a member of the Finance and Public Safety committees.

During his time on the Quorum Court, Moehring says he has developed a deep understanding of where tax dollars are spent and more importantly where those dollars come from -- Benton County taxpayers. He is opposed to unnecessary taxes and raids on the County's reserve fund. At the same time, he has supported law enforcement and the Benton County jail as well as emergency road and bridge repairs.

As county judge, Moehring says he will work on three key initiatives for Benton County:

• Fiscal Health: Support balanced budgets, oppose unnecessary tax increases and work to preserve the health of the County's reserve fund.

• Long-Range Planning: Address comprehensive infrastructure and transportation needs, emergency services, economic development and position Benton County to play a key role in the future economic health of the region.

• Trust, Integrity and Transparency: Work to restore trust and integrity in County government and create a climate of collaboration, communication and transparency for the benefit of all Benton County residents and County employees.

Moehring believes it's time for new leadership at the executive level of Benton County. "That leadership begins with the County Judge," Moehring said.

Moehring and his wife, Cindy, have been Benton County residents for more than 16 years. They have three children, two of whom currently attend Bentonville Public Schools and one who recently graduated from Bentonville High School and attends the United States Naval Academy.
