It's pumpkin pickin' time

From the minuscule to the mammoth, pumpkins of many shapes, sizes and colors await at McGarrah's Pumpkin Patch which opens this Saturday, Sept. 26. McGarrah Farms is celebrating its 20th year, according to owner Dennis McGarrah, who said he's had the pumpkin patch in Pea Ridge for eight years.

Pumpkins grown in a patch in Pea Ridge line the entrance.

Fields are full of pumpkins, some hiding beneath the large green leaves. Some pumpkins are so large that they can barely be lifted by one person. Wagons are provided for visitors to take to the pumpkin patch to carry the pumpkins. Bales of straw and corn stalks for autumn decorations are also for sale.

There will be a food concession stand this year, McGarrah said.

The pumpkin patch is located on Miser Road just east of town, north of Lee Town Road.

Admission is $6. Activities include a tractor-pulled train ride, hay ride, maze, a hay tunnel and a playground and picnic area. There will be mini donkeys to see. School groups are welcome.

A haunted hay ride is slated for Oct. 31.
