Garfield City Council

City Council members approved Ordinance 163 adopting all streets in the city limits as city streets after the third reading Sept. 8. The ordinance had been read and discussed for the previous two months.

The first reading of an ordinance to increase the water rates by $1.80 per meter effective Jan. 1, 2016, was read. The increase is in response to the rate increase from Benton-Washington County Regional Water Association to the city.

City officials officially accepted the resignation of former water superintendent Mickey Kelley.

The council authorized the mayor to supervise an individual assigned community service, from the Benton County Work Program. The council consider an Agreement to Engage in Reciprocal Building Inspection Services, with Benton County Building Safety Division.

In other business, council members:

• Approved paying former city employee Mickey Kelley for 160 hours of sick pay and two weeks vacation;

• Approved the city's use of the Benton County Work Program to allow people to earn civil service credit for picking up trash for the city.

The next City Council meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.
