Applesauce Cake

From the kitchen of Lola Mae Beaver, former 4-H member, 30-year 4-H leader

Country Classics, Battlefield 4-H Club, Pea Ridge, Ark.

2 1/2 c. flour

1/4 tsp. baking powder

1 1/2 tsp. soda

3/4 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. cloves

1/2 tsp. allspice

1/2 c. shortening

2 c. sugar

1/2 c. water

1 lg. egg

1 no. 2 can applesauce or 1 1/2 c. applesauce

1/2 c. nuts

1 c. raisins

Cream shortening and sugar, beat in water and egg. Add dry ingredients (sifted) alternately with applesauce. Fold in nuts and raisins. Bake in greased and floured 9- by 13-inch pan in a 350 degree oven about 45 minutes.
