Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday dedicating the new $5,000,000 wing at Rogers Memorial Hospital. The new 49,000-square-foot wing increases the hospital's bed capacity to 165 and enables expansion of ancillary diagnostic and treatment and support services. This was the first phase in a long-range plan which provides for orderly, flexible expansion of hospital services to meet projected community needs.

There will be gunfire over Pea Ridge once more on Saturday, May 24, when a 19-gun salute will be fired during the raising of the American Revolution Bicentennial flag on the school campus.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The ordinance designed to establish an emergency medical service district for the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County received approval of the Quorum Court Thursday night on its first reading. It still must be read two more times and approved by the justices of the peace before it can be referred to the residents of the area to be served in a referendum.

Pea Ridge City Council Thursday night heard parking and speed limit proposals from City Marshal Doug Carson Carson recommended a uniform 25 miles per hour speed limit for the city, except for those streets which are part of state highways. Carson pointed out that the current 35 miles per hour speed limit on heavily travelled Weston Street is "too fast considering the condition of the street and the location of Pea Ridge Day Memorial Park, which is now full of Little League ball players."

The Pea Ridge High School Band, under the direction of David Dickey, recently participated in a Music Carousel Festival at Webster High School in Tulsa and earned a superior rating on its concert program. Jessica Mashburn, first trumpet, was recognized for her outstanding musicianship and Debra Wallace was honored as an outstanding soloist.
