Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Custom-made trophies given to the contestants at the United States Final Team Trials for the Pan-American Judo Games Saturday, were made in Pea Ridge by Hale Engineering -- from the roughed-out wooden model to the cast aluminum match plate right on to the finished product.

Visitors to Pea Ridge National Military Park this summer will be able to view area artists capturing various scenes on canvas. Under the direction of Erwin Doege, professional artist from Rogers, the group spends each Wednesday painting in the park.

Pea Ridge Country will have a new dentist in July when Dr. Ken Pearson takes over the practice of Dr. Bob Matlock and Dr. Barry Scott. Pearson said the deciding factor in his coming to Pea Ridge is the friendliness he has found here.

A 1935 Garfield High School graduate, Col. Bob Edwards, shared memories of his school years as he addressed the large crowd at the third Garfield Reunion. Col. Edwards is retired from the United States Army.

Recently annexed Brush Creek Hills residents were welcomed to the city of Rogers by Mayor John W. Sampier Jr. at the Property Owners Association meeting June 20.

More than $1,500 was raised at the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department eighth annual barbecue Saturday afternoon. Fireman of the Year was awarded to Harley Ingram.

The problems created by dogs running loose inside the Pea Ridge city limits were discussed by area residents at the Pea Ridge City Council June 20. Council members are looking into the best ways of enforcing the city's dog ordinance without putting an extra burden on the Police Department.

The Moto Guzzi National Owners Club held its annual rally on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Pea Ridge-Rogers KOA Kampground on Highway 62. More than 500 Moto Guzzi owners attended the rally from across the nation.

A Bentonville development company plans to construct a full-service grocery store in Garfield. The grocery will be located on a three-acre site just east of Garfield Elementary School on the north side of Highway 62. It would be just northeast of the Buss Stop, which also sells groceries.

Robin Hodges, Jacquelyn Walker and Natalie Alumbaugh, all homeowners in the new Standing Oaks development on Highway 94 west of Pea Ridge High School and residents of St. Clair Street, told the Pea Ridge City Council at its meeting June 21 that their backyards are unusable because of standing water. "We call it 'Standing Water' instead of 'Standing Oaks.'"

The week of June 6-10 had camps north and south of Pea Ridge for kids with special needs. Team Diabetes gathered for its third year on land owned by James Wright Sr. Visitors were greeted by a Model 1841 six-pound reproduction cannon.The camp provides regular camp activities and education programs.

On the Jerry Wilkerson farm, Kidz Camp combined special needs children with regular campers for horseback riding and water sports. Provided by Northwest Arkansas pediatric Therapy Services, hippotherapy was used as a tool to address physical impairments, functional limitations and disabilities in patients.
