Austin Hicks, football player for the Blackhawks, is going to college to play lacrosse.

Hicks, 19, played football as receiver and defensive back for the Blackhawks his junior and senior years. Previously from Bentonville, the son of Shawn and Cindy Hicks, he had joined a club lacrosse team while in Bentonville and continued to play lacrosse.

"I went to a school function for Tiger Pride and watched lacrosse," Hicks said, adding that he played all four years of high school on the northwest Arkansas team. He said the season runs February through late March right after football season.

"I played attack," Hicks said of his position on the lacrosse team. "It's like a mix of football, hockey, soccer and basketball. The contact is like football. You move the ball around on the outside. There's a lot of sports combined; that's why I love it so much.

Hicks said he plans to major in sports management.
