Retirement sent him to northwest Arkansas and back to work.

Tim Costello, the new manager of Neighborhood Market by Walmart in Pea Ridge, said he wasn't cut out for retirement.

"I was bored," Costello, 54, said of retirement and his returning to the work force. A native of Phoenix, Costello was raised in West Virginia and the Atlanta, Ga., area. "I went fishing. I didn't like fishing. It (retirement) didn't set well with me."

He served 12 years in the U.S. Navy as a missile technician on submarines. Then, according to his words, "climbed the corporate ladder" before retiring and moving to northwest Arkansas for his wife's career, which was "blossoming after raising children" and she was working for a Walmart supplier.

Nearly five years ago, Costello went to work for Walmart and has gone from overnight stocker to daytime support manager and now manager in Pea Ridge.

He describes his vision for the store as providing a "clean, fast, friendly" shopping experience. He said the associates are "paid to be friendly."

"We've got a pretty friendly staff here," he said.

Costello said he is committed to growth and providing product assortment in the Pea Ridge store and plans to sell Pea Ridge paraphernalia. He is scheduled to work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week and is off on Wednesday and Sunday, he said.

Costello and his wife Carrie have been married 32 years and have three sons, one granddaughter and a grandson on the way.

They are involved in church, he said, and he likes likes fast cars, reading and taking long drives in the country with his wife.
