Summer reading program underway

Well here goes my first attempt at writing an article for the Pea Ridge Community Library! Here goes nothing! I am sure that everyone will agree with me when I say that we will miss librarian, Mrs. Peggy Maddox, very much while she is away recovering from her surgery.

This year our Summer Reading Program sign-up date will be June 1. Come by the library and sign-up any children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. The Summer Reading Program will run through June 25. That is not much time so stop by and pick up a book today!

We will give out a prize for the child who reads the most in each grade level as well as to the child who reads the most overall. The prizes are yet to be announced but rest assured they will be as great as always.

In the past two weeks, we have received more than 250 donated books, most of which were Young Adult new releases. That number does not include the countless magazines flowing in! Many of these books have been placed on the shelves and we were able to donate a number of books to the Book Bus program.

I would like to remind everyone that we are working with the Book Bus program as a drop off location for donations. So please bring your new or gently used children, teen and even your non-fiction books to us and we will get them to the bus. These books are greatly appreciated by not only the school but by everyone who now has a chance to read a good book over the summer break!

If you have been in the library at all in the last few weeks, you probably have noticed that some of our shelves are devoid of their normal items. We are in the process of disinfecting all library items, making sure they have the right bar codes and information in our system. While they are off the shelf we are checking for those in a series in order to make your selection process easier.

As my fourth grade teacher told us "Keep it short, sweet and to the point," but don't worry there will be more to talk about next week as I am sure that exciting and interesting things will be happening soon at the library.
