Children hurt in wreck

Two children were injured in a two-vehicle collision about 2:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of It'll Do Road and Arkansas State Highway 72, according to State Police.

A 1997 Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old female from Pea Ridge was southbound on It'll Do, police said, when it failed to yield at the stop sign and collided with a westbound 2000 Buick Electra driven by a 31-year-old male from Garfield. There was a 78-year-old male in the Buick.

In the Honda, were a 13-month-old female in a car seat that was not properly restrained in the vehicle, and a 3-year-old male, not properly restrained in a child safety seat, according to the report. Both children were taken by Pea Ridge Ambulance to Northwest Medical Center; the 3-year-old was then taken by helicopter ambulance to Mercy, Springfield, police said.

The female driver was cited for failure to yield, failure to transfer her driver's license to Arkansas and one count of no child restraint. Further charges are pending as police confer with the prosecuting attorney.

The driver of the Buick was cited for driving on a suspended driver's license.

"Pea Ridge police assisted," State Trooper George Enke said, commending the city police for taking care of the scene, getting witness statements and providing valuable assistance until his arrival. "I'm very grateful for their help. They did an excellent job."
