Let the battles begin!

"We are going to battle!"

Sandy Fletcher, director of the Pea Ridge Fair pageants, said the 66th annual summer fair will be Pea Ridge Battle Days. Several "battles" are planned including a battle of the bands, a battle of the BBQ, a fireman's muster and Civil War encampents. Eight pageants will be held Friday night and Saturday morning.

Friday, July 10

6 p.m. Spaghetti dinner

7 p.m. pageants

Saturday, July 11

9-noon - pageants

5:30 p.m. - Parade

6 p.m. - BBQ dinner

6-10 p.m. - Battle of the Bands

Friday, there will be a spaghetti dinner, bingo, dunk tank, vendor booths and concessions. Saturday, barbecue chefs will begin their battle at 8 a.m. with the benefits of their labors served at 6 p.m. after the parade.

The annual fair parade is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Line-up will be at Community First Bank. The parade will travel north on North Curtis Avenue to downtown ending on the school grounds where the battles are staged.

The second annual St. Jude's Light the Ridge Red Battle for Cancer walk is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday; prizes will be awarded for the most money raised and the best costume.

The main stage, site of the pageants and the Battle of the Bands is sponsored by Oakview Animal Clinic. Gold sponsors include Oakview, Arvest Bank, Beta Alpha and Jim's Razorback Pizza; silver sponsors are Sugar Creek Golf, Pea Ridge Vet Clinic, Sisco Funeral Home, Center Point Construction, Mercy Health NWA and Beaver Farms; and bronze sponsors are Pea Ridge Florist, Sew and Sew, Head Hunters, Webb's Feed and Dollar General, according to James Crews, president of Beta Alpha.
